Weekend sports roundup: Walsh, UC Merced men’s soccer cruise at home
Tyler Walsh scored two goals and added an assist as the UC Merced men’s soccer team cruised to a 5-1 victory over La Sierra on Sunday at Lake Field.
Sean Ritchey, Sergio Serrano and Cruz Trenado all found the back of the net, helping the Bobcats improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the California Pacific Conference. Heriberto Diaz made one save in the win.
La Sierra, of Riverside, fell to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the CalPac.
College women’s soccer
UC Merced 8, Mills 0 in Oakland – Ashley Bennett scored two goals and Noelle Weber had a goal and two assists as the Bobcats (5-0) extended their perfect start. Backup goalkeeper Gabby Vinco made a save to preserve the shutout.
High school football
Le Grand 33, Berean Christian 6 in Walnut Creek – Christian Williams scored on runs of 2 and 71 yards and added a 75-yard interception return for a score in a road rout of Berean Christian (2-2) on Saturday.
The game remained tight into the third quarter but permanently swung Le Grand’s way on a Victor Martinez 47-yard interception return. It was the first victory for the Bulldogs (1-2) in the Raul Alvarez era.
