Brian Chongtoua had a nice week.
After going more than a month without finding his way onto the score sheet, the UC Merced sophomore midfielder tallied three assists in a victory over Pacific Union College on Tuesday. Chongtoua was at it again Saturday, scoring two goals and assisting on one in a 4-1 victory over Simpson University at Lake Field.
The big week moved Chongtoua to third on the team with 12 points and kept the Bobcats atop the California Pacific Conference North standings at 4-2 and 7-4 overall.
Kevin Quintanilla opened the scoring in the 14th minute and then set up Chongtoua four minutes later.
Simpson (0-11, 0-6 Cal Pac) scored on one of its two shots on goal, trimming UC Merced’s lead to 2-1 at intermission. Cody Golbad and Chongtoua found the back of the net six minutes apart in the second half to put away the win.
UC Merced 3, Simpson 0 – Becca Bright, Kelsey McLaurin and Claudia Diaz all scored as the Bobcats (8-1, 4-1 Cal Pac) outshot the Redhawks 41-2 in a dominating home win.
